So I’ve visited 10 times, mainly to explore its heritage sites. My spouse Ashrith, co-author of our blog, lived in Mysore for four years and knows every corner.
We have experienced both successes and failures in finding good accommodations in Mysore. The joy of finding the perfect stay can make your trip memorable.
For example, I once paid 7k for a Maharaja suite in a luxury heritage hotel during the off-season but the same amount for a budget hotel in a poor locality during Dasara. Prices vary drastically with the seasons.

The best areas in Mysore for tourists are Lakshmipuram for cultural enthusiasts, and Gokulam for yoga enthusiasts who loves to stay in hostels.
Lakshmipuram
Best for: History buffs and cultural enthusiasts
Why: If you love exploring historical sites and want to be close to major attractions like Mysore Palace and Devaraja Market, Lakshmipuram is perfect for you. From budget hotels to luxury heritage hotels, you get it all in Lakshmipuram.
Plus, if you want to go on a day trip to places near Mysore, there are plenty of travel agents who lend cars with drivers in Lakshmipuram.
Personal Note: This is my favourite neighbourhood, and I prefer to stay here most of the time. Unlike other cities where famous areas closer to visitor interests are filled with just hotels, Lakshmipuram maintains a perfect balance of local residents and quiet hotels.
So, you won’t be surrounded by tourists only if you stay here. The best part is the area is quieter and within walking distance from Devaraja Urs Market, which I recommend visiting early in the morning.
Best hotels to stay in Lakshmipuram Mysore: Royal Orchid Metropole (Heritage Luxury) and Soho Boutique Hotel (Mid-range – Budget)
Gokulam
Best for: Yoga lovers and wellness seekers, travellers who prefer homestays and hostels over hotels.
Why: Gokulam is ideal for yoga enthusiasts, with its many yoga centres and affordable guesthouses.
Many foreigners who live in Mysore stay in Gokulam for yoga. It is one of the greenest, quietest neighbourhoods in Mysore. The area also has plenty of cafes.
Personal Note: I have stayed in a Gokulam homestay once. It is extremely affordable and the area feels very homely. Although it isn’t closer to any tourist attractions, I recommend this for budget travellers.
Mysore isn’t huge, and traffic is less, so getting to places like Jaganmohan Art Gallery or Banni Mantap, which are 5-6 km away, can easily be done by bus or rickshaw. You can reach these places within 20 minutes peacefully.

JC Nagar: Close to the Mysore Zoo, it features various luxury hotels. Check Radisson Blu Plaza.

The best hotel in Mysore is Royal Orchid Metropole, located in Lakshmipuram. I have stayed twice in this traditional Mysore-style mansion built in 1920, and I always loved it. The entire hotel feels like you are hosted by a Mysore dewan or royalty.
The yellow decor, lattice windows, ancient paintings, a silver jhoola at the entrance, wooden staircases, and a courtyard with trees that are now beautiful restaurants – you can’t get a more charming heritage stay than Royal Orchid Metropole.
Make sure to book the Maharaja Suite to experience the real old-world charm.

Lalitha Mahal Palace

Located in the Siddhartha Layout of Mysore, Lalitha Mahal Palace was built in 1921 by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV. It is a stunning blend of Renaissance and Italianate architecture.
Originally a guesthouse for the Viceroy of India, it features grand interiors with Belgian crystal chandeliers, Persian carpets, and intricately carved woodwork.
Now a heritage hotel managed by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), it offers a unique experience of royal living with modern amenities.
My brother’s family stayed here for a night, and they loved it. The grand corridors with an open balcony on one side and decorated walls on the other were a favourite spot for my niece to run around.

Laika Heritage Stay, a private heritage villa located in Lakshmipuram, Mysore, is ideal for families travelling together. It is a 100-plus-year-old heritage home that can be rented for a family of six.
They have a huge garden in the front with giant trees and a courtyard inside the house. As an architect, I can tell you it is one of the best-restored heritage structures.
They even have in-house staff who take care of your breakfast daily.
The entire house can accommodate six people in its three rooms and costs about 10k per night for the entire villa. So, Laika Heritage Stay is the best place for families to stay in Mysore.

Ideal for couples , suitable for all seasons
Situated in Lakshmipuram, Soho Boutique hotel is known for its stylish decor, central location, and attentive service. Guests love the modern amenities and the hotel’s proximity to popular tourist spots.
I and Ashrith stayed here for three nights in 2022 and was pleasantly surprised by the clean and comfortable rooms, with parking available at such a low price.
The only thing they could improve was the quality of breakfast. – Anyways, Mysore got plenty of great breakfast places. SOme of them are even located near Soho.

Ideal for Families, stay here doing Dasara
Located in Bannimantap, Le Oak Inn is highly recommended for its good service, clean and comfortable rooms, and convenient location close to major attractions.
I stayed here in September 2017 with my parents for two nights. Apart from the parking issue (we had our car and they kept asking us to park in different places every day), everything else is good about Le Oak Inn.
If you are visiting Mysore during Dasara, Le Oak Inn is one of your best options as it is just 1.5 km from Bannimantap grounds where the Panjina Kavayatthu, or torchlight parade, is held. You can easily walk to the venue even at night.

One of the oldest hotels in Mysore, Hotel Pai Vista is located in Nazarbad, just 1.1 km from Mysore Palace. The hotel may look old, but the rooms and other amenities are worth the money. They have two in-house restaurants, with Gufha serving delicious North and South Indian food.
Ashrith has stayed here once and we recommend it for the ease of getting around and their late-night restaurant service. During Dasara, if you return late to your room, many hotels might not have food available, but Pai Vista does.

Emerald Clarks Inn Suites
Located away from the main tourist attractions but closer to Chamundi Hills, Emerald Clarks Inn is situated in Vidyaranyapura, one of the nicest residential neighbourhoods in the city.
When I say far from the city centre, it’s just a 15-minute taxi ride through the beautiful wide roads of Mysore.
I stayed at Clarks Inn, Mysore, for two nights in 2023, and it was really good. Getting around is super easy with Uber taxi.
If you are looking to stay away from the tourist crowd and don’t mind taking taxis and autorickshaws, Emeralds Clarks Inn, is one of the best places to stay in Mysore for both families and couples. They also have a great pure vegetarian restaurant in-house.

Budget Places to stay in Mysore
Hotel Siddhartha
Ideal for families.
Located on the main road in Nazarbad, Hotel Siddhartha is one of the oldest hotels in Mysore, established in 1982. This is where my parents stayed during their honeymoon trip to Mysore. As a kid, I must have stayed here at least thrice with them!
It continues to be a good place even today and is our go-to choice when we are looking for a budget hotel in Mysore.
It is 900m from Mysore Palace, 1 km from the KSRTC Bus Stand, and 2 km from Mysore Railway Station. Staying at Hotel Siddhartha is super economical, as you won’t spend much on transportation.
The building doesn’t look fancy, but it has everything a good, affordable hotel should have – an elevator, an attached bathroom, and a good restaurant.

Ideal for couples.
One of the newer hotels that has quickly gotten travellers’ attention is Emerald Urban Comforts, located on Chamaraja Double Road in KR Mohalla, just 1 km from the Mysore Palace entrance. It is an ideal place to save money, especially during Dasara.
Reviews praise the friendly and attentive staff, and the in-house restaurant serves delicious food. It’s a great value-for-money option for couples.

Another newer hotels located in Devaraj Mohalla, right beside the Jaganmohan Art Gallery and closer to the railway station, Banyan Tree Comforts is a budget-conscious traveller’s top pick.
Despite being a budget hotel, they have elevators to reach the upper floors. Travellers rate this hotel excellent for cleanliness and location.
