Where to Stay in Innsbruck This Summer – Travellers’ Picks
Austria’s Innsbruck in summer feels completely different from its winter charm. Instead of snowy slopes, you get green meadows, hiking trails, and warm days perfect for exploring the Old Town.
I visited Innsbruck with my mum during summer 2022 and we quickly realised that where you stay can really shape your experience.
Many hotels focus on winter sports, so not all of them offer the same comforts or location benefits for summer travellers.
In this guide, I’m sharing the best places to stay in Innsbruck summer, covering a range of options from budget-friendly stays to luxury hotels across different neighbourhoods of the city.
By the end of this post, you can pick what suits your budget and needs best and enjoy your stay in Innsbruck between June to August comfortably.

How does booking accommodation in Innsbruck change between summer and winter?
In winter (December to March), Innsbruck is all about skiing and snowboarding. If you’re here for the slopes, staying in a ski resort or somewhere close to ski lifts and shuttles makes the most sense. Waking up right next to fresh powder? Absolutely worth it.
So, if your itinerary is packed with sightseeing and outdoor adventures, it makes sense to book a stay closer to the city centre or near hiking trails in summer.
You’ll save time and energy—trust me, you’ll appreciate that after a long day of exploring!

Tips to find budget accommodation in Innsbruck in Summer
Don’t choose hotels in Old town – The historic centre in and around Golden roof is a charm, but pick areas 1km outside of it like I did and stayed in Innstrasse.
Stay in Hostels – Look for hostels even as a couple traveller where private rooms are available.
Look for Guesthouses & B&Bs – Family-run pensions and B&Bs often offer cheaper rates than hotels.
Check University Dorms – Some student accommodations rent out rooms to travellers in summer.
Look for Innsbruck Card Deals – Some accommodations offer pick and drop if you have Innsbruck Card.

FAQ
How to get to Innsbruck
Fly to Innsbruck Airport (INN) or take a train from Vienna, Munich or Zurich. Trains are comfortable, scenic and reliable. If you’re already in Austria, trains are usually the best option. Driving works too, especially if you plan to explore nearby villages and mountains.
Is Innsbruck worth visiting in summer?
Yes! Innsbruck in summer is perfect for mountain hikes, outdoor cafes, festivals and Alpine views. You get great weather for sightseeing and plenty of day trips to nearby lakes, villages and peaks. It’s less crowded than winter and you can enjoy the city and nature in one trip.
How many days is enough for Innsbruck?
2 to 3 days works for sightseeing, hiking and exploring Old Town. Add a day if you want to visit Seefeld or Hall in Tirol. If you love mountain hikes, you could easily spend 5 days or more exploring trails, alpine huts and nearby valleys.
How to travel around Innsbruck
Public transport is easy and reliable. Trams and buses cover the whole city and nearby areas. Most tourists walk in the Old Town and use the Hungerburg funicular for Nordkette. Taxis are expensive, so stick to public transport.

The Innsbruck Card is best if you want free entry to attractions plus free transport, including Nordkette cable car. If you just need transport, get the Welcome Card, which is free at some hotels if you stay 2 nights or more.
Is Innsbruck Cheap for Tourists?
Not really. Hotels, restaurants and activities are pricier than other Austrian towns, especially in peak summer and winter. But free hikes, public transport passes and affordable cafes outside Old Town help keep costs down. It’s cheaper than Vienna and Salzburg, but not a budget destination.
