10 Stunning Bollywood Filming Locations Abroad to Visit
Would you believe me if I said that some of the best travel inspiration doesn’t come from glossy brochures or Instagram influencers — but from Bollywood movies shot in foreign countries?
Growing up, we didn’t Google destinations. We heard them and watched them. My grandad’s Varanasi diary and my aunt’s Gangotri stories shaped my early travel dreams.
But somewhere between Hrithik dancing on a turquoise Thai beach and SRK romancing in the deserts of Egypt, Bollywood quietly started adding foreign countries to my bucket list.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to visit some of these iconic filming locations myself — from romantic Bruges in Belgium to the surreal white terraces of Pamukkale in Turkey.
And let me tell you, they’re just as magical in real life as they looked on screen.
Here are 10 Bollywood movie shooting locations in foreign countries that you can actually visit.

1. Kaho Na Pyaar Hai filming location in Thailand
Back in 2000, when Hrithik Roshan made his dreamy debut in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, most of us were too busy swooning over him to notice something else — that unreal turquoise beach in the background.
But my mom noticed.
She fell in love with the location long before she cared about foreign travel.
Ever since watching the title track, she dreamt of visiting that charming island where Hrithik danced against limestone cliffs and clear blue waters.

Which island was “Kaho na pyaar hai” song shot on?
The title track of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai was filmed in Krabi and Hong Island in Thailand.
Both are popular among tourists today — but Hong Island stole my heart.

When we visited, we had barely three hours on the island during a boat tour. And yet, for most of that time, there were only four of us on that stretch of beach.
The water was impossibly clear, the cliffs dramatic, and my mom stood there softly humming “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai” like she had finally stepped inside her own daydream.
It wasn’t just a filming location anymore — it was a full-circle moment.
Travel Tip: Visit Hong Island early in the morning with a small-group boat tour preferably from Simba sea trips like we did from Phuket.
The crowds arrive later in the day, and the peaceful turquoise waters you saw in the movie are best experienced before noon.
If you’ve ever wanted to stand where Bollywood shot one of its most iconic foreign songs, this Thai island absolutely deserves a spot on your bucket list.
2. K3G Filming Location in Egypt
Even if we joke about the over-the-top drama of Kabhi Khushi Gham, we have to admit one thing — Karan Johar knows how to choose stunning foreign filming locations.
The romance between SRK and Kajol in Egypt wasn’t just cinematic — it made many of us dream of visiting the land of pyramids ourselves and that gorgeous white desert.
Suraj hua maddham song shooting location
The romantic song Suraj hua maddahm from K3G is shot mainly in the Bahariya white desert in the west of Egypt, near the Libya border & partly in front of Giza pyramids,

SRK & Kajol dance first in Giza and then romance in a desert that looks as if Snow queen exploded, and the explosions froze in time to form mysterious formations.
If you’re planning Egypt beyond the usual Cairo and Luxor route, this is one of the most unforgettable offbeat destinations you can add.
And, many Indians want to recreate a similar scene of romance- Be aware that PDA is kind of strictly frowned upon in Egypt and you might be inviting unnecessary trouble, unless you are actually filming a cinema.

Travel Tip: You cannot visit the White Desert independently — access is restricted and private vehicles aren’t allowed beyond Bahariya Oasis. Book a guided desert tour in advance to avoid logistical headaches.
It’s also impossible to reach this desert landscape if you’re only doing a Nile cruise.
We personally went with Your Egypt Tours for our White Desert experience and loved how smoothly everything was arranged — from transport to camping under the stars.
3. Singh is King in Egypt
Let’s be honest — Singh Is King may not have been a cinematic masterpiece- I didn’t like it at all. But visually? It delivered.
Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif dancing against ancient Egyptian ruins created one of the most unexpected Bollywood-meets-history moments ever.
Jee Karda song filming location in Luxor
The energetic Punjabi song “Jee Karda” was filmed in some of Egypt’s most historically significant sites in Luxor — and that’s what makes it so fascinating.

Parts of the song were shot at the Temple of Hatshepsut in Luxor, located near the Valley of the Kings
. Other scenes feature the massive columns of the Hypostyle Hall at Karnak Temple.
It is hard to imagine a Bollywood dance sequence happening in such an ancient and delicate setting.
If you’re visiting Luxor, these sites are already part of most itineraries — but watching the song before you go makes the experience oddly more cinematic.
Travel Tip: Visit the Temple of Hatshepsut as early as possible — it gets crowded fast. It opens around 6am, so you can pair it with a sunrise hot air balloon ride over Luxor and head straight there before the tour buses arrive.
4. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani filming location
Back when we were dating, Ashrith and I had completely opposite taste in music. He listened to Iron Maiden. I was happily lost in John Denver.
We rarely agreed on songs.Until “Tu Jaane Na.”
That soulful melody from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani somehow became neutral territory for both of us.
And that’s why the location in the background stayed with me for years and became the reason for us to go to it’s filming location in Turkey for honeymoon.
Tu jaane na song shooting Location
Tu Jaane na from APKGK was filmed in Pamukkale of Turkey.

If you’ve seen the visuals, you’ll remember those surreal white terraces filled with turquoise water. They almost look fake — like someone photoshopped snow and thermal pools together.
But they’re completely real.
Pamukkale’s terraces are natural thermal pools formed by calcium deposits over thousands of years.
And just above them sits the ancient Roman city of Hierapolis, complete with a beautifully preserved amphitheatre and fallen marble columns — the same historic backdrop where Katrina and Ranbir’s black-clad romance unfolded.
As an architect, I was just as fascinated by the Roman theatre as the famous white pools.
Travel Tip: Pamukkale has become one of the most popular tourist spots in Turkey. Many tours suggest spending just 2–3 hours here before heading to Ephesus, but try to stay overnight. Seeing the white terraces glow during sunset and then again at sunrise is pure magic.
5. Dil Dhadakne Do in Turkey
If you’ve only seen Bollywood movies that focus on struggle and poverty, Dil Dhadakne Do feels like a completely different universe.
A wealthy family celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary + spnsoring it for 50 other folks on a luxury cruise across Greece and Turkey? That’s peak cinematic indulgence.
I actually loved the movie,— it was that brief glimpse of Cappadocia in Turkey that stayed with me forever.

Phir Bhi Yeh Zindagi Shooting Location
The song “Phir Bhi Yeh Zindagi” was partly filmed in Cappadocia, Turkey.
Even though the movie shows it only for a short moment, those fairy chimneys and hot air balloons floating across the sky were enough to spark travel dreams for thousands of us.

And honestly? Cappadocia in real life feels even more surreal than it does on screen.
Watching hundreds of colorful balloons rise slowly over ancient cave dwellings at sunrise is one of those bucket-list experiences that lives up to the hype.
The landscape looks like something from another planet — soft rock formations, underground cities, and homes carved directly into stone.
Bollywood only gave us a glimpse. The real experience is far more magical.
Travel Tip: Stay at least two nights in Cappadocia. Hot air balloon rides depend heavily on weather conditions and often get canceled due to wind. Booking an early morning ride for your first full day gives you a backup option the next day if needed.
6. Bang Bang Filming Location in Greece
Let’s admit it — Bang Bang may not have been remembered for its storyline, but it absolutely delivered when it came to exotic international filming locations.
Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif wandering through white-washed alleys overlooking the Aegean Sea? That was peak wanderlust
Meherbaan Hua Shooting Location
The romantic song “Meherbaan Hua” was filmed in Santorini, Greece, primarily in the postcard-perfect towns of Oia and Fira.

Those iconic white buildings with blue domes, narrow cliffside lanes, and endless sea views weren’t movie magic — they’re very real.
Walking through Oia feels cinematic even without Bollywood music playing in the background.
The golden sunset reflecting off the whitewashed houses, the deep blue Aegean stretching endlessly below — it’s easy to see why directors choose this island for romantic sequences.
Bollywood captured the aesthetic beautifully. But being there in person, especially during sunset, is something entirely different.
Travel Tip: Santorini is one of the most famous islands in the world — which also means it gets overwhelmingly crowded. Visit in spring (April–May) for 5 days at least and avoid peak summer if you can.
We spent a full week there in May, explored offbeat corners beyond Oia and Fira, and managed to escape the crowds many times.
Salman Khan Tiger movie series filming locations
Some movies don’t need sequels — but the Tiger franchise decided to build an entire universe – whether audience wanted it or not.
The movie songs and stunning backdrop in the songs, particularly in Austria gave the poor plot a slight push.
Dil diyan gallan filming location – Innsbruck
The soulful romantic song “Dil Diyan Gallan” from Tiger Zinda Hai was filmed in Innsbruck’s Altstadt (Old Town) in Austria.

If you’ve seen the song, you’ll remember Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif walking through charming cobbled streets with pastel-colored buildings and snow-dusted mountains in the background.
Innsbruck feels straight out of a storybook. The colorful facades, the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), and the dramatic Alpine backdrop make it one of the most picturesque towns in Austria.
Standing there, you almost expect Bollywood music to start playing on its own.
And I loved the shopping options and veg food options in Innsbruck when I spent 3 days there. Absolutely would go there again.
Ruaan song shooting location – Vienna & Salzburg
The song “Ruan” from Tiger 3 showcases multiple Austrian cities, blending imperial architecture in Vienna and natural beauty across charming Salzburg.

I have spent 2 weeks travelling in Austria with my mom, have visited both the cities. Seeing the real locations where Ruaan was filmed gave me some kind of excitement.
In Salzburg, you can spot scenes filmed near the Salzach River with the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress rising in the background.
The charming streets and riverfront setting make it feel both grand and intimate at the same time.
The song later moves to Vienna, specifically Maria-Theresien-Platz, where Salman Khan plays the violin surrounded by elegant museums and statues.

The square sits between the Natural History Museum (NHM) which is my absolute favourite and the Kunsthistorisches Museum — one of the most iconic landmarks in Austria’s capital.
Vienna brings that royal, old-world European charm that Bollywood romances love.
Travel Tip: If you only have a few days and are confused about whether to visit Vienna or Salzburg, read my detailed comparison post to decide.
Salzburg has a more relaxed, nature-filled vibe with mountains & rivers
While Vienna feels imperial, artistic, and slightly hipster.
Your choice really depends on the kind of Austrian experience you’re looking for.
8. PK filming location in Belgium
In PK, Aamir Khan plays an alien trying to understand human society — which already makes it one of Bollywood’s most unusual, super funny and a great film.
While most of the movie was shot in India, the romantic backstory between Jagat Janani (Anushka Sharma) and Sarfaraz (Sushant Singh Rajput) takes us to Europe, especially Belgium.
Where did they film Chaar Kadam song from PK?
The song “Chaar Kadam” was filmed in Bruges, Belgium — one of the most romantic and well-preserved medieval cities in Europe.

Cobblestone streets, quiet canals, horse-drawn carriages, and gothic towers — Bruges feels like stepping into a fairytale.
Watching Anushka and Sushant cycle through the narrow lanes only adds to its dreamy charm.
Bruges isn’t loud or dramatic like some European capitals. It’s soft. Slow. Peaceful. Which makes it perfect for a love story.
Walking along the canals at dusk, when the historic buildings reflect on the water, you’ll understand why the director chose this city for a tender romance.
Travel Tip: Bruges is undeniably beautiful — but it gets crowded quickly. We visited in spring and spent just a day there, but if I could redo it, I’d stay at least two nights in the off-season like we did.
Skip summer if possible — hotel prices shoot up, activities get expensive, and the charm fades a bit with heavy crowds.
9. Jab Harry Met Sejal shooting locations in the Netherlands
If there’s one Bollywood director who understands wanderlust, it’s Imtiaz Ali.
Jab Harry Met Sejal direct by him revolves entirely around travel — lost rings, European train rides, awkward conversations, and unexpected romance.
Naturally, the filming locations across Europe became characters in the story themselves. So did the Netherlands.
Harry and Sejal in Zaanse Schans
While the movie travels through Amsterdam, Vienna, Lisbon, Budapest, and Prague, one of the most visually striking locations in the Netherlands is Zaanse Schans, near Amsterdam.

Travel Tip: There are direct buses from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, and the journey takes just about 30 minutes — so you absolutely don’t need to book an organised tour.
If you visit in spring, you’ll see windmills surrounded by endless tulip fields, which is honestly magical. But expect ENORMOUS crowds.
I loved Zaanse Schans for the scenery and especially the wooden clog-making workshop — watching them craft traditional Dutch clogs was surprisingly fascinating.
10. Jab Tak Hai Jaan in England
There are countless hindi movies filmed in England, particularly London. DDLJ, Namastey London- we can list at least a dozen of them.
But the way SRK , Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan showed London is amazing.
The London streets to Ghettos, palaces to squares- everything was part of this Romantic drama.
Saans mein teri song shooting location
The romantic song “Saans Mein Teri” was filmed in London, England, with one of the most recognizable scenes taking place on the Millennium Bridge, with St. Paul’s Cathedral rising in the background.

Watching Katrina Kaif run barefoot across the bridge while SRK follows her — that’s classic Bollywood romance set against iconic British architecture.
Millennium Bridge offers one of the best open views of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and walking across it in real life feels surprisingly cinematic — especially early in the morning before the city fully wakes up.
The film also features other parts of London, but this bridge scene remains the most memorable.
It’s one of those filming locations where you can stand in the exact same spot and immediately recognize the frame from the movie.
Traveltip : My husband spent an entire week exploring London in September — and still felt like he hadn’t seen enough. So don’t ever plan a rushed trip here.
A friend of mine who lives in London always says, “Don’t come unless it’s summer.” And while summer is definitely more expensive, you really do need Lord Sun’s blessings to see London at its best.
The next time you watch a Bollywood song set in some dreamy foreign land, don’t just admire it — pause and Google the location.
You might realize your next international trip has been hiding in your favorite movie scene all along.
Which Bollywood filming location is on your bucket list? Tell me in the comments — I’d love to know which one made you fall in love with travel.

I was definitely surprised at the variety in the spots used to film Bollywood movies. Such lovely spots to set the movies. Fun to read a little bit about each of the movies. It would be fun to check out the movies before visiting some of these spots.
Hi Linda! Hehe yes. Most of them are over- dramatic 😂and full of (too much) love🤪
Such a cool “theme” to try and accomplish.. I’d love to explore Belgium and Austria first and would be neat to learn about the film process in these beautiful countries.
I’ve never seen any of these movies, but I’ve been to 4 filming locations on the list and I would love to visit the others. They do know how to choose stunning locations as a backdrop.
Hi Cosette. You are so true. Many Indian cinema directors and producers may not excel at making good movies, but they sure know how to pick beautiful lcoations
