Every time I watch a great movie or a series, I can’t help but wonder: what’s more impressive, the filming location or the screenplay?

Sure, there are plenty with lackluster plots but breathtaking settings.

Hollywood doesn’t always guarantee great movies, but their cinematography techniques and the way they set up backgrounds often surpass many other films.

Hence, these beautifully captured movies can ignite your ultimate travel dreams.

1. Money Heist in Thailand

“Money Heist”, a Spanish series revolves around a mastermind known as “The Professor” who recruits a group of criminals, each with a unique skill set, to carry out an ambitious plan: to print billions of euros at the Royal Mint of Spain.

Out of five seasons, the series was filmed in several fantastic locations across the world. One of such spots is located in Thailand.

We can’t call ourselves movie maniacs without relishing the classic Indiana Jones series.

These films blend action, history, and intriguing treasures seamlessly. Plus, the archaeological quests take us to fantastic locations!

Petra, the historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan, was featured in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” Indy rocks up to this ancient hidden city, Petra-The Treasury’s mind-blowing carved facade on a cliff.

Indy heads to Petra in search of the Holy Grail, believed to grant eternal life. He’s following in his father’s footsteps, aiming to rescue Professor Henry Jones, who was captured while seeking the Grail.

Later, Kannada actor Yash filmed a song there.

Hrithik Roshan also danced along with Kangana there.

The Jordanian holiday desire grew stronger each time a new scene/song filmed in Petra appeared.

Finally, we made enough (a lot of money) to sustain in Jordan for a few days, and we hit the trail Siq following the footsteps of Indiana Jones.

Seeing those camels with those traditional Jordanian carpets in front of “The Treasury”, Bedouin men in their unique style of clothing – I don’t know if I was Indy, but it felt like i would holy grain on those camel backs.

3. The Martian in Jordan

We often think incredible movie scenes in unique places aren’t real, believing they’re the work of amazing visual effects.

Likewise, watching “The Martian,” the Mars scenes seemed like brilliant sets or VFX, but in reality, they weren’t.

“Death on the Nile” is an Agatha Christie mystery, Ashrith’s favorite author. It became a movie in 1978 and again in 2022.

The story follows the renowned detective Hercule Poirot on a luxurious Nile River cruise in Egypt.

As with classic detective tales, trouble finds them, leading to a murder that Poirot inevitably solves.

Where was the Death on the Nile filmed?

The movie filmed some parts in England. They shot the luxury boat interiors in a studio. It’s evident that they filmed the first scene in front of the mighty Pyramids of Giza.

However, the movie truly brings the Nile’s enchantment to life in Upper Egypt, Aswan.

There are hardly any Tom Hanks movies that I am not a fan of. Strangely, Inferno is one of them.

But for him, I did watch it with all my interest. The Inferno filming location spans across the western world, including Florence and Venice in Italy, Budapest in Hungary, and Istanbul in Turkey.

But many boomers are Roger Moore fans.

“For Your Eyes Only,” a 1981 James Bond movie starring Roger Moore. He is tasked with recovering a top-secret device. He travels to stunning locations, including Greece, to complete his mission, facing thrilling action and suspense along the way.

Would it be a stretch if I claimed “Game of Thrones” as the ultimate best series ever? I mean, let’s face it?the final season was a bit of a letdown!

But even with all the series’ endings and characters meeting their fate, Tyrion Lannister remains the top pick. Plus, the show’s renowned for its incredible filming locations scattered across the globe!

The Game of Thrones crew didn’t film scenes at Meteora, the UNESCO World Heritage site in Greece. Instead, they digitally inserted those stunning Meteora monasteries into the first season.

The Eastern Orthodox church didn’t approve of filming there. So, poor Tyrion Lannister found himself trapped in that wild, steep hilltop dungeon, all thanks to VFX magic.

Though not a fan of action-comedy, I enjoyed watching “Knight and Day.” Who can resist Tom Cruise’s daredevil antics in stunning locations?

They filmed the movie in various nations, including the USA, Spain, Jamaica, and Austria.

“The Three Musketeers” blends friendship, romance, and swordplay, with over 50% filmed in Bavaria.

During my six-day stay, I unexpectedly found a captivating filming location from the 2011 movie, adding magic to my Bavarian exploration.

The renowned Studios near Berlin crafted the cinema’s ‘Venetian’ canals. Yet, dive into the realms of fantasy, and you’ll unearth ‘Da Vinci’s Vault’ right under your nose at the Munich Residenz.

Eggsy, Harry, and Merlin are our top picks too. I admit, there were tears when Merlin met his end singing “Country Roads” in the second Kingsman movie.

The must-visit Kingsman filming location is the Tailor shop, the heart of the series.

In reality, a shop called “Huntsman and Sons” on Savile Row is the setting. It’s too tempting not to check inside to see if they run a secret agency! Ashrith did check inside, only to find that their suits are as expensive as £3000 (approximately 3 lakh INR).

14. Harry Potter in England

Skipping Harry Potter filming locations on a trip to England feels almost criminal. Personally, I sway more towards being a Lord of the Rings fan, but Ashrith, he’s all about that Harry Potter magic.

So, on his London business trip, he made sure to dive into the city’s Harry Potter filming spots. His main mission? To step foot on the real-life 9 3/4 platform.

You can easily scout around London, exploring Harry Potter locations for two days, including Millennium Bridge, Leadenhall Market, and Charing Cross Road.

However, in our personal opinion, nothing beats the 9 3/4 station location at King’s Cross Station.

Any brick column in this station looks like you could just walk through it to get to Hogwarts.

For the fantasy of Harry Potter fans, the station has a place marked as 9 3/4, where they provide you with a wand and a scarf to wear (all for no cost), and the staff takes pictures for you.

Must-visit ‘Harry Potter’ Filming Locations in Oxford

Several spots in Oxford served as filming locations for Harry Potter. Christ Church Staircase and cloisters are among them, but they can get crowded.

However, New College Cloisters and its courtyard with a tree are a true delight for Harry Potter fans to relive the moment.

It’s the scene from “Goblet of Fire” where Draco says to Harry, “My father and I have a bet, you won’t last ten minutes in the tournament,” sitting on a tree.

You can stroll around the tree, give it a touch (but please, no climbing), and then Moody transforms Draco into a Mongoose.

The corridor next to the garden has also made appearances in Harry Potter films.
