Japan’s got it all—stunning views, rich history, and food that’s worth every calorie.
But let’s be real, it’s not exactly budget-friendly, and Osaka is no exception. It’s a bit cheaper than Tokyo, but still not ideal for budget travellers.
On our first trip to to Japan evey yen mattered. In 2 days in Osaka, we had to carefully spend.
To really save, you’ve got to know the hacks for attractions and using public transport! That’s when the Osaka Amazing Pass comes into the picture—everywhere online as a top pick for saving cash.

What is Osaka Amazing Pass?
It’s a digital pass that gives unlimited rides on Osaka Metro, city buses, and selected railways, plus free entry to around 40 attractions like Osaka Castle and Umeda Sky Building.
These passes aren’t exactly cheap! One Osaka Amazing Pass costs around 3,300 yen for one day and 5,500 yen for two days.
So before buying, you need to consider if you can realistically visit all 40 spots in one or two days—it’s almost impossible, even if you use Osaka Metro to get around everywhere
Osaka Public Transport overview
Getting around Osaka is super easy with their subways and JR Loop Line, and it’s not nearly as complicated as Tokyo’s subway network.
And Osaka Amazing pass is allowed on most of it.

We relied on the Japan Transit Planner app to figure out which trains to take and get around smoothly.

So, don’t forget to download it and have a reliable mobile network for easy navigation in Osaka!
And just like anywhere in Japan, the sidewalks are well-paved, so if you’re like us, mixing subways with a lot of walking is the best way to explore the city.
What’s cool is that Osaka is kind of a floating city, surrounded by water. So, you can hop on water buses or take short cruises in some areas instead of sticking to roads and trains.
If you love cycling, you’re in luck! There are plenty of cycle rentals near Osaka’s famous spots.

Calculating the Pass Worth with Osaka Itinerary
Sample Itinerary 1: When the Pass Isn’t Worth It
For Day 1 of our 2-day Osaka trip, here’s what we did and the entrance fees:
Sightseeing cost on Day 1: 1,200 yen
Total transport cost: 480 yen (mostly walked, except Dotonbori to Osaka Castle and then to Umeda).
Total Day 1 cost: Around 1,680 yen.
Since the 1-day Osaka Amazing Pass costs 3,300 yen which is more than 1680 yen, it wasn’t worth it for us.
We spent the second day entirely at Universal Studios, so there was no point in buying the pass for two days.

Sample Itinerary 2: When the Pass Pays Off
Let’s say your itinerary includes:
That’s a total of 5,100 yen, plus around 600 yen for transport. In this case, the 1-day Osaka Amazing Pass would help you save some yen!

Our Verdict
It’s super clear that the worth of the Osaka Amazing Pass totally depends on your itinerary. Even when it does pay off, the savings are usually pretty small. So, I wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone.
Instead of buying any pass, using an IC card such as Suica (like we did), or others such as Pitapa or ICOCA, is best—they don’t get you any discounts
But you can easily use them for food, transport, and entrance fees wherever you need. They’re super convenient for flexible travel!
